Frequently Asked Questions
Will I need a Visa?
If you are a non-EC resident, you will need a visa in order to study in the U.K. How do I apply for a Visa? After you have been accepted by a school and you have paid your fees, the school will send a letter of acceptance which you will need to take to the nearest British Embassy, British Consulate or British High Commission. Please visit the official website www.fco.gov.uk for further information. You will also need to provide evidence that you have accommodation arranged in UK. If this is done via ISB a letter of confirmation will be provided. If you make your own arrangements, you must ensure that you can provide proof to the Embassy/Consulate. A complete list of the information you must provide with your visa application can be obtained from the Embassy/Consulate. How long does the application take? There is no definite answer to this question as each applicant's case is assessed individually. Is there a minimum time I must study? Yes, to qualify for a student visa, you must have been accepted on a full-time course with a minimum of 15 hours daytime study each week. What other information will I need to provide when I apply for visa? You will need to show that you have sufficient money in your bank account to support yourself during your stay in U.K. This should be at least US $1500 - US $2000 but the more you show, the better. You will also need to demonstrate that you plan to return to your home country. For example; show that you are studying and must return by a given date to continue your studies; show that you own a property in your country. How do I pay my course fees? Once your application has been accepted by a school, we will contact you. We will provide you with our Bank details so that you can go to your Bank to arrange for the course fees to be transferred directly to us. If I have to cancel my course due to failure to obtain a visa, will the course fees be refunded? If you advise ISB in writing, at least three weeks before your course is due to start, the fees will be refunded in full, less a cancellation fee of US $150.00. How will I receive my refund? Your refund will be sent directly to the Bank from where you paid your fees. Can I arrange accommodation through you? Yes. Accommodation can be arranged for all or part of your visit. Can I work? Yes. On a student visa you are allowed to work 20 hours per week with minimum pay of $9.50 per hour. Work can be obtained from any jobcentre located in all areas and by enquiring through friends, local papers, asking in pubs and restaurants. etc. ![]() |
